After traveling 600 miles from his shop in Senoia, Georgia
to the infamous high banks of Winchester Speedway, Bubba
Pollard was looking forward to a successful first trip to the
Indiana half-mile to make his trip worth wile. Unfortunately
that wasn’t what the unruly track, known as “The World’s
Fastest Half-Mile” had planned.
“I felt like we had a good car,” said Pollard. “We didn’t qualify
as well as we probably should have, but I really thought we
were going to race pretty well. When the race started we got
going and just settled in at what I thought at a good spot and
we were just riding. Then as I went down the back straightaway, a big cloud of smoke came in the car and we lost power steering. I’ve driven without power steering several times before but this is a place where you do not want to go without power steering so we just decided to pull it in and park it.”
Despite his bad luck, Pollard was still pumped about his first trip to Winchester Speedway and was still glad to have made the trip and its experience.
“I like it,” said Pollard of the track. “This is my type of race track and I feel like once we get some more laps around here we’ll be good. I talked to a lot of guys who gave me some feedback and helped me along the way to get me close so that I could come here and adapt quick. I like the place and enjoy the place, I learned a lot so hopefully we can come back and be a little better next time.”
When asked if the opportunity presented itself to return to the infamous half-mile, Pollard replied, “Definitely, definitely, we’ll be back.”
The next few weeks will be busy for Pollard and his team as they head to Five Flags Speedway and South Alabama Speedway for a Pro Late Model double-header this weekend and then set out on a stretch with their Super Late Model program that will take them to Gresham Motorsports Park, down to Five Flags Speedway and then back to the midwest to Lucas Oil Raceway in early October.
